Intimate Winter Wedding in Colorado {Patrick + Brittney}

I have to say, I’m really loving all these beautiful winter weddings that I’ve been photographing lately! I’ve had so many snowy weddings in the in the last two months, I’m starting to think that getting married here in Colorado in the winter is going to become more popular than summer or fall! Winter weddings certainly don’t come without risks and hazards though…like when your parent’s car gets stuck in the snow on the way to the wedding or when the forecast predicts heavy snow and 20mph winds!

Truth be told, I had one of the nerve-wracking moments in my career as a wedding photographer while on my way to Brittney and Patrick’s wedding in Breckenridge. I typically give myself 6+ hours to drive into the mountains in the winter to make sure I’m on time for the wedding. But this time around, it almost wasn’t enough time. The snow was accumulating so quickly that the Colorado State Patrol shut down I-70 while I was on it. I was stuck and there was nothing I could do. So there I was, with precious little time to waste, stuck in a blizzard on I-70 and no way of determining when I would be allowed to continue driving. Minutes turned into hours and I was almost certain that I was going to miss the wedding completely. Just before I started dialing Brittney’s phone number to tell her about my predicament, the Interstate re-opened and I was allowed to continue my trek towards Breck. Phew, sweet relief! Once my nerves settled, I was able to take in all the beautiful emotion and details of Patrick and Brittney’s wonderful winter wedding.

Brittney and I had been in contact for months before the big day. We tossed around ideas of a summer wedding in Aspen to a winter wedding in Breckenridge. Eventually Brittney and Patrick decided that The Lodge at Breckenridge would be the perfect spot. I love that they were able to stay the night, get ready, get married and celebrate with their families at the same place. That is a wonderful benefit of getting married at a place like The Lodge at Breckenridge – everything you need is all in one place! It also helps knowing that there is a warm backup location inside just in case the weather turned. Thankfully we were treated to softly falling snow, warm temperatures (32 degrees!) and beautiful mountain views so the indoor option wasn’t even necessary. I’m so thankful that I was able to be a part of (and on time to!) this beautiful intimate wedding, congrats Brittney and Patrick!
